The College
Welcome to the Xian Tian College of Chinese Medicine. Originally set up in the South of the UK, Xian Tian was established by Damo Mitchell and Rob Aspell to teach the a full syllabus of Chinese medicine. The college now provides training courses in a number of disciplines such as Acupuncture, Tui Na Massage, Chinese Herbal Medicine, and Qi Gong. We pride ourselves on bridging the gap between Eastern and Western medicine and understanding, and inspiring students to become enthusiastic, passionate, and fully confident practitioners of whatever therapy they choose. Our courses are provided via a mix of online and practical lessons to ensure that students have a deep grasp of Chinese medical theory as well as a high level of practical skills.
Acupuncture Diploma Training
In September 2023, we will be offering our next professional Diploma course in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. This will be taught in the UK and only available to those who are already enrolled into our online module in Chinese medical theory.

Modular Study
The Xian Tian College of Chinese Medicine (XTCM) teaches its subjects in a modular fashion. College students all initially study the Online Theoretical Module which you can find out about by clicking here.
This initial Online module takes the form of weekly classes which average between 60-90 minutes in length. Each of these classes looks at an aspect of Chinese medical theory which can then be discussed with experienced tutors within our Online Discussion Group.
Once this initial module is successfully completed, students may then continue with practical in-person classes in Chinese medical skills.
The Four Pillars
of Chinese Medicine
Acupuncture
Tui Na
Herbal Medicine
Qi Gong
The four pillars of Chinese medicine – Acupuncture, Tui Na, Herbal Medicine and Qi Gong – are the four treatment modalities which were practiced by classical Chinese medicine Doctors. These key modalities would then be supported by Cupping, Moxa and further study of the Daoist arts; this was considered the way towards developing a full and rounded understanding of Chinese medicine.
Within the Xian Tian College of Chinese Medicine, we teach a full syllabus of Chinese medicine and help our students to move systematically into the various pillars of Chinese medicine. Paired with the Xian Tian College, is the Lotus Nei Gong International school and the Internal Arts Academy which teach traditional internal cultivation through arts such as Qi Gong and Nei Gong.
Lotus Nei Gong
Xian Tian College is the Chinese Medical branch of the Lotus Nei Gong International School of Daoist Arts. Both branches work closely together to provide complete and in-depth training in these arts. CLASSICAL PRINCIPLES
There is a growing trend within Chinese medicine to increasingly move towards a western model of working. Classical theories are being thrown out, Acupuncture is being seen through the lens of western medicine and anything deemed ‘unscientific’ is being stripped from this ancient tradition. This is not necessarily a western-only turn of events though; it is increasingly taking place in China as well with most of the more classical approaches to Chinese medicine now existing primarily in South East Asia.
There is nothing inherently ‘wrong’ with this if this is the kind of therapy you would like to study. Modern science has given the human race great advancements in health and many of the modernised versions of Chinese medicine work just fine for many health conditions. But there are many people out there who do not wish to see Chinese medicine through this modern ‘lens’. For many, the ancient theories hold a lot of attraction and as a working model they were an integral part of Asian medicine for centuries. Rather than dividing human beings from their environment, as is the modern way, the ancient theories see mankind as a united part of the trinity of Heaven, Humanity and Earth. The flow of information (Qi) between the two great poles is of huge importance to the practice and diseases are seen as a reflection of a persons Ming (destiny/lifepath) and Xing (nature) as well as simply the result of germs and pathogenic influences.
As Chinese medicine becomes more modernised it is also moving away from key skills which are integral to the practice. This is a great shame as a time honoured tradition is slowly fading away.
